Reading a job posting for what it actually pays
Because the title is unsettled, postings vary enormously in what they are really asking for. Three signals tell you which band a role sits in before you apply.

The last row is the most common trap in this category. A posting that asks for enrichment pipelines, outbound automation, and CRM ownership is describing a GTM engineer and a RevOps hire at one salary, and whoever takes it will be assessed on both and able to do neither well.

Contract supply at the senior end is genuinely tight, and rates have held firm because the people who are good at this can usually generate more value building their own thing. Expect to pay at the top of the range for someone with a measured play they can describe in detail.
For candidates: how to move up a band
- Instrument what you build. The difference between the mid and senior band is almost entirely whether you can attach conversion and cost numbers to your own work.
- Learn SQL properly. Biggest single premium, and it changes which roles you can credibly apply for.
- Own the whole loop once, including measurement back to pipeline. Candidates who have only owned the middle — enrich, score, route — cap out at mid level.
- Get one migration or consolidation on your record. Same effect as in RevOps careers: it is the project companies most fear doing alone.
- Understand deliverability. Underpriced, quickly learned, and it prevents the failure that ends outbound programmes.
